Posted: August 18, 2010 at 5:26 pm So if you didn’t guess I’ve semi-abandoned the patch mirrors. This is for 2 reasons 1) I no longer play WoW 2) The amount of time it’d take me to convert it to a site that wowwiki is happy with linking to.
I’ll be leaving the current patches online, it’s unlikely I’ll be adding any new ones – more so while I’m working on my Trek Training

Posted: June 19, 2010 at 1:11 pm Well as you can see the site is back after its somewhat extended downtime. I’ve cleaned up the mirrors, added a few new patch packages and moved the site to a new platform.
With any luck that should be that last outage for a while.
Posted: May 28, 2010 at 5:28 pm Hi all, I’m aware that there are some issues with a couple of the mirror servers. I’ll be taking a look at these once I get to a pc and should get them fixed for you over the coming weekend. I may also move the pages to something that is a little lighter to download – maybe by changing the template that this site uses, not completely sure yet as it depends on how much time I have for these things this weekend
I also noticed that I have missed a couple of patches, thia is because I’m taking a break from WoW at the moment and playing eve online instead. However that doesn’t mean that ill stop updating things here – far from it. I will also upload those patches this weekend.

Posted: May 12, 2010 at 8:07 pm I’ve moved the site to a more powerful server running Nginx/memcached/MySQL as the other one wasn’t able to keep up with the traffic loads during peak times. If your seeing this then your looking at the new server. Enjoy
Posted: April 17, 2010 at 10:24 pm Sorry for the issues with getting to the site today – my DNS Provider’s records went weird and even though it wasn’t going to the right location I never got an alert…
Should all be fixed now, enjoy.
Posted: April 10, 2010 at 4:26 pm So over time as the amount of traffic to this site has built up and up and up (every month for the last 3 months I’ve set higher traffic levels)… so has the cost. As a result I’m going to be moving to a “proper” project around which I should be able to get some proper advertising going to supplement the money I put into running this service.
As a result, GamerFiles.net has been born. While the site isn’t live yet – and won’t be for a little bit – I would be interested in hearing your thought’s about features and things you’d like to see from the site. I still fully intend to provide the same level of service that I have here, that’s not going away at all. After all the download/mirror here was born out of the frustrations of using slow mirrors all the time…
At the moment I intend to just start off with the popular files, I hope to be putting out the feelers to some of the patch publishers for quick access to the updates so that I can provide them even quicker than I do here.
In the mean time, I will of course be keeping thing here up to date and maintained. It’s my personal site after all
Posted: March 26, 2010 at 3:24 pm I’ve recently popped the 3.3.3a enUS patch on the download list as I noticed there we no mirrors on WoWWiki. As a result there’s been quite a lot of extra traffic here so if the site seems a little slow (it shouldn’t) sorry. Please let me know if you have any issues with the download’s.
Patch Information
Version: 3.3.3a
Build: 11723
Language: enUS
Filename: WoW-3.3.3.11685-to-3.3.3.11723-enUS-patch.exe
At the moment there isn’t a release for any language aside from enUS. Once there is I will, of course, upload them.
Enjoy!

Posted: March 26, 2010 at 12:23 pm For those admin’s that also run patch mirrors I’ve setup an rSync mirror for you to sync the content that I have here on the site from. Hopefully this will enable other patch site admin’s to get their patches updated nice and quickly
It’s located on my UK network (once my USA server is up and running I’ll also apply the same thing over there with GeoLocation).
You can reach it via rsync://rsync.alexsmith.im/wow-patches/ – Things are kept nice and tidy in language/client folders so if you only wish to sync on language you can do so without too much trouble.
Please let me know if you have any issues, I’d be interested to see what sort of uptake there is for this.
Posted: March 23, 2010 at 8:06 pm I’m aware that there are currently fairly slow downloads for people in the above areas, I’m working on a solution to this problem right now and will post revised download links once I’m done.
Update: I’ve added a link to a server inside the USA for both the enUS and esMX patches. I’ll keep it there till this weekend, bandwidth permitting. I will be ordering a USA server at the start of April in replacement of the German server I have at current. Thanks for your understanding! If you have any problems please email alex[a]alexsmith[dot]me. I’ll be away from my PC for a while but I can deal with things from my iPhone
Posted: March 20, 2010 at 9:25 pm As you will no doubt notice I have added one other ad location on the site at the top of the page to try to help supliment the cost of running this site. I have also change my advertising provider, as OpenX was quite frankly taking the piss and not sending any paying ad’s at the site. That is they were sending adverts but not paying me for them…
So I’ve moved to another provider but please let me know if you see any objectionable adverts in the mean time, I will look into them and filter the ones that are not welcome here. As much as I dislike adverts online I do need to attempt to cover some of the cost of this site seeing as I’ve not had a single donation in the last 6 months…
Either way, it’s up to you if you choose to whitelist the adverts on this site – I can’t force you.
